This year OxClean launches a new campaign called Spotless Oxford. The idea is to encourage everyone, especially businesses and institutions in the city centre and commercial districts, to clear litter from the space outside their premises. Litter free pavements and gutters will help Oxford towards becoming a litter-free city, and provide support for the City Council’s cleaning efforts.
OxClean’s Rosanne Bostock says, “This is a great idea for helping keep Oxford’s streets clean and litter-free all year round. It used to be a common thing to do in this country and still is in many parts of the world”.
Already signed up for Spotless Oxford are the Ashmolean Museum; the Bodleian Library; University and Oriel Colleges; Blackwell’s Bookshops; the Old Bank Hotel; Quod; the Old Parsonage; Gees; three Costa Coffee outlets in Oxford, Cowley and Summertown; Marks & Spencer in the City Centre and Summertown; Mail Boxes Etc. in Headington and Summertown; and Cherwell School. We welcome and thank them all for their early support.
Organisations signing up to Spotless Oxford commit to clearing litter from the private and public spaces in and around their premises at least once a day. This may simply be the frontage of a shop or business (including the pavement and gutter), but it could include side alleys, parking spaces, etc.
Why it’s worth doing.
All organisations taking part and who are happy for their efforts to be publicised will be recorded on the Spotless Oxford Supporters’ page here on the OxClean website and promoted on the OxClean facebook and twitter feeds. In addition OxClean will work with local media and the City Council to publicise the campaign and those who are participating.
Participants will also be able to show a “Spotless Oxford” logo on their premises and in their own marketing material, showing they are doing their bit to help make Oxford’s public realm pleasant and attractive for everyone. We hope to add more publicity material (stickers, posters etc) for Supporters in due course. We believe staff will feel positive about the contribution they and their organisation are making to the community, and that customers and visitors get a positive impression of each organisation.
