On Saturday 23 November around 30 organisations took part in the North Oxford Eco-fair at St Michael and All Angels in Summertown. Together they provided advice on recycling, repair and upcycling, planting trees, solar panels, house insulation, changing to green energy, reducing plastic waste, electric cars and e-bikes, local allotments, supporting poorer communities, campaigning, lobbying decision makers, and more.

OxClean’s parent organisation Oxford Civic Society was there to tell people about their work lobbying for better transport links, encouraging people to switch from cars to public transport, cycling and walking, and of course OxClean. OxClean Co-ordinator Natasha Robinson said “OxClean’s Spring Clean is a marvellous annual event with around 1000 volunteers taking part from all parts of Oxford and from so many different communities. It’s great fun, and it helps get the message across that litter is not just unsightly, but seriously damages the environment and wildlife.”

The stand attracted many visitors, including Oxford’s Lord Mayor Craig Simmons and two candidates in the impending General Election.

Spring Clean 2020 is happening over the ‘leap weekend’ on 28 & 29 February and 1 March. You can join in by registering a Group litter-pick, or sign up as an individual and OxClean will put you in touch with an organiser in your area – follow this link to go to the registration page.
